Danville Enlightener VOL. VIII, No. 10
Atheism & MoralityRecently I spoke with someone who thinks that atheists can be and in many instances are more moral than Christians. I found this to be somewhat confusing because without the existence of God there can be no inherent right or wrong, good or evil, moral or immoral. All such discussions of moral and immoral must begin with God. Peter wrote, “But as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy.’” (1 Pet 1:15-16). In stating this, the apostle quotes from Lev 20:7. God is the standard of all that is holy (for the sake of our discussion, moral). I often ask those who believe in Darwinism (atheists) to explain to me why the holocaust (the slaughter of six-million people by the Nazi’s) was wrong? It could not have been wrong because God said “You shall not murder,” (Exod 20:13) since, according to the atheist, God does not exist. By the way, Adolph Hitler was an evolutionist who believed in Darwin’s theory. Not only did he accept Darwinism he put it into social practice. Hitler’s theory of the master race came from the pen of Charles Darwin. Here is a quote from Darwin you won’t find in a public school textbook: “At some future period, not very far distant as measured by centuries, the civilized races of man will almost certainly exterminate the savage races of man, and replace them throughout the world.” All
the Nazi’s did was implement Darwinism.
How many of you knew that the book “Origin of Species”
is an abbreviation? The full title to
Darwin’s book is: “The Origin of the Species, or the preservation
of the favored races in the struggle for
life.” I find it disingenuous for the atheist to appeal to emotions (I don’t feel it would be right) or appeal to “it’s against the civil law governing the welfare of man,” because the Nazi’s operated within their law, and certainly Hitler, Eichmann and others felt it was right. The only honest condemnation of the atrocities of the Third Reich stems from the fact God exists and he demands we not murder. The reason the holocaust was immoral is because God is and he demands that we not murder. Why do you suppose that schools across the country refuse to present any alternatives to their theory of evolution? It is not because of the supposed separation of church and state. I thought teachers wanted their students to be presented with alternative theories. I was under the impression that teachers wanted students to examine various hypotheses so as to make informed conclusions. If creationism is so idiotic, it seems to me they would relish the opportunity to debunk it once and for all. Atheists cannot survive a level playing field. Instead their only hope is to spoon-feed their religion (the religion of Darwin) to your children. This is a religion of immorality contrary to what those deceived by it believe. Evolution has led to the sexual revolution, the Playboy mentality, the Porn industry and all the sexual promiscuity of our day. Sir Julian Huxley who was the grandson of Thomas Huxley, a colleague of Charles Darwin, became the head of UNESCO, (United Nations Educational Scientific Cultural Organization). Huxley in explaining the wide acceptance of Darwin’s Origin of the Species said: “We all jumped at the book because . . . .” I’ll interrupt the quotation because I want to point out that the rest of that quotation does not appeal to the abundance of scientific proof. Huxley does not cite the burning evidences offered by Darwin as reason to accept the book. He does not complete the quotation with “Darwin’s compelling and convincing arguments.” No! Here is how Huxley finished the reason for the wide acceptance of the book; it was because “. . . the idea of God interfered with our sexual mores.” The
book gave them what they wanted freedom
from divine restraints. If
Gen 1:1 “In
the beginning God created the heavens
and the earth” is
accepted then all that follows in the
Bible must be accepted as well.
So, the easiest and laziest thing
to do is not try to defend one’s
behavior; instead it is to get rid of
the impediment to the behavior, God. Instead of it being intelligent and judicious when God is denied the opposite is true. It is both intellectual dishonest and irrational to deny the existence of God. “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” (Psa 14:1).

"As I See It" “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new,” (2 Cor 5:17). In remembering the old neighborhood I can’t help but think of some of the guys I used to hang out with. George, Bill, Danny, Doug, Marion, Tom, Rick, Denny and ole Muss. Although we were close and thought we would always be, I have lost touch with them. I haven’t heard from Tom and Rick since they left for boot camp at Parris Island. Bob Muss was killed in Vietnam, he and I spent many evenings riding motorcycles together. He joined the Marines shortly after I was drafted into the Army. The others? I haven’t a clue! Recently, however, I found Denny, not personally but on the Internet. Denny graduated the same year as I (1965) and was also drafted into the army. After a stint in Vietnam Denny returned to Kentucky; in the early 70’s he moved to Texas and became involved in Country Music. He always played around with a guitar as a teenager but most of the guys just poked fun. In Texas he not only performed but wrote music. During this time, he came familiar with Texas songwriters like Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt as well as Kentuckians John Prine and Dwight Yoakum. These influenced and helped Denny. Denny now lives back in Louisville and performs locally at the honky-tonks and clubs. He has recorded CD’s and has “enjoyed” marginal success in his chosen field. He will be releasing a new CD soon entitled “Blame it on the Whiskey.” I believe the title tells all one needs to know. While this scene might have at one time been familiar to me, it seems so depraved and revolting now. Reading about Denny, I know many of the places he plays and many of the people with whom he associates. While I know the names I don’t recognize the allure. I see Denny with his bottle of Falls City Beer and his cigarettes and I utter the adage: “But by the grace of God . . .” Many have asked me if I ever attended high school class reunions, and I tell them no, never. Often I am asked why or I am given a quizzical look. Don’t I want to reconnect with my past? Absolutely not! AS I SEE IT, I am not the same person. Like all my brothers and sisters in Christ, I am now a new creation and I don’t look back. |
